The most annoying set I have is not a problem getting them to trigger, but instead that the moment the gap is a car length over the induction loop, it them returns to red to allow the opposite green filter light to come on. This means I have to filter to the front or be only a car or two away from the asl or otherwise I don't make it through that cycle.

I'd rather be practical too. For me that means lights that recognise all road users, so I don't have to wait for a real one who has paid his road tax to let me follow through behind him.
Do what you want to do, its a free world ;-)

I was told by a police officer the other morning that the set of lights I had just pulled up too (and he was patrolling) were broken and not changing from red for anything. I had to process with caution (which at 5am is no biggie)

This one is always a PITA - http://goo.gl/maps/i7lSe

The right turn is bus and tram (and cycles!) only. At rush hour even if there is a bus and tram coming, they are often stuck way back in the traffic. It never seems to change without a bus or tram, but not sure if that's a sensor issue or do such controls only exist triggered by local buses and trams? I did have a conversation with a clearly lost driver when I was feeling charitable, pulled around them and told them if they carried on through the lights, the cameras were active and a £30 fine would be sent (true), and I don't recall the lights changing for the car either, until they had backed up and moved to the main lane and a bus arrived

Reported it to council but not noticed any difference

Even worse if a bus is ahead - great! It triggers the light but there is always a line of cars blocking the junction up so the bus generally manages to set off on the amber phase after the green has been showing..leaving me stuck at a ne'er-changing red

I don't even bother anymore, I just head straight on and to the main road, it's a slightly longer route but it's faster than reading War & Peace waiting for the tram to change the light for me
