On the road to nowhere
I'm heading to Porthmadog from Newcastle this Saturday morning and am planning a 2 stopper, but need a trailer friendly car park at a services. I'm using the trailer as my roofbox plus bikes dropped the mpg to 44 (volvo s40 2.0D saloon) last month on a holiday to Skeggy. Better aero plus limiting my speed to 60mph  should help.

My first stop will probably be Wetherby which is 1 1-2hr down the road but then thought I'd stop not long after I come off the M62.

Any ideas / suggestions appreciated

Assuming you're using the M56 you've got either the one at Lymm just off the M6/56 junction, or probably better is Chester services on the M56 with a decent sized caravan parking area.

I don't know as I've never pulled a trailer, nor paid attention to trailer parks when stopping at a services. It'll be interesting especially with the bikes on the boot aswell.

Thanks for the advice on Chester. Seems the best option as it means I don't stop on the m62.

Don't trailers and caravans just pull into the bit where the coaches go?
They do, but they shouldn't! Same goes for the HGV spaces. These drivers are pulling into services to take a break which they must legally do. They're not going to be happy when they can't find a space because they're full of selfish nobbers in caravans or other types of things attached to the back of cars!

True, but most of my visits to motorway service areas have been on a Saturday and there's been plenty room for everyone.

Surely there should be some provision for people with caravans, etc. We don't want them driving for hours without a break either - especially since they're likely to be less experienced drivers than the professionals.

I have driven HGVs, but never a car with a trailer, so I don't know how complicated it is to hitch/unhitch a car/trailer combo; but I would have thought that if there is a shortage of double length spaces then it might be possible to put the trailer in one space, and the towing car in another. I have seen separate parking facilities for cars with trailers in some services, although admittedly they might be rare!

unless the services have signs saying caravans/trailers and HGVs . anyway don't you all prefer secluded laybys ;)

Hi
I tow a caravan and have not found a service station yet that was not set up to take a trailer. Only problem would be with smaller Little Chef type setups, but the main services are fine. Usually they have a caravan/trailer area.

Top tip- check the age of the trailer tyres! They have a date code on them. If older than 5 years replace them.

Or use the roof box and just drive at 60!
