Hypothetically, If a guy was to spend too much time reading travel blogs on crazyguyonabike.com and then get it into his head that he wanted to cycle across America..............
Would he tell himself " don't be silly ", you only have an alluminium spec tricross sport OR
save up to buy a steel framed LHT OR YOLO you only live once, it is doable on the tricross, go for it!. He would be carrying a tent and would put a rack on the front for light items

Has anyone done it on such a bike? How do you navigate? maps / gps? considering a dynamo hub to charge the iphone and use google maps!

Hypothetically of course...........

there's a lot to talk about...but basically the transam is more fun than I ever knew was possible on a bike...erm..except this one time:whistle: ..cough...anyway...navigation..easy as pie...aca transam maps...also get the free gpx files loaded into a garmin if you want and follow the red line across America...happy to chat if you wanna pm.

What did the early settlers use?

Bootleg whiskey mostly I think...

actually you can still see the old wagon trails in places 'out west' where the wheels of hundreds of wagons wore gullies into the ground. In some places I thought..bloody hell how did they get through here...particularly in dense forest areas...the trans am and the lewis clark trail meet in places...
