Transferring components between frames

I recently discovered that the Kaffenback I'd bought back in January is WAY too small for me and I was never going to find a good position on it. I've just bought a CAADX frame size 56 which looks like it fits me much better.

I was wondering whether to take on the transfer myself or just get the LBS to do it. I've swapped cranks, BB and cassettes before. What I haven't done is removed and fitted derailleurs, front or back. Or shifters. Both are SRAM RED so well worth transferring. Is it easy or should I leave it all to the LBS ?

The brakes are Tektro Canti - if there's a better brake I can switch to and still have clearance for 35mm tyres this would be a good opportunity. Any recommendations?

There will be a problem with the deraileur hanger. Each one is specific to the frame. I have found that out the hard way and have a bent hanger. I have looked all over the place for one which will fit but none do.
With popular frames, it should be fairly easy to find what you want.

In terms of swapping gearing over, it is really just unscrewing from the old frame and screwing it back on to the new one. The hard part is setting up the gears and indexing them, which if you don't manage you could ask your LBS to do. With the front derailleur make sure the bottom of the cage is just a few mm above the big ring when in the highest gear.

Have you considered pieces that require special tools? Bottom brackets, headsets etc will require special tools to remove and fit.

I'd be surprised if the frame didn't come with the correct derailleur hanger already fitted, or in the box - Even second hand.

.

Thanks. I have the BB tools for Shimano, but this is SRAM so I'd have something else to buy. If the LBS come back with a reasonable price to transfer everything over I'll get them to do it. What's a reasonable price I wonder ?

Think the BBs may not be compatable!?

You're right I just checked back to the original order and the BB is SRAM GXP.

The CAADX frame is BB30 threaded. Do I just need a BB30 bottom bracket or will I need to change the cranks (currently SRAM APEX)

Hmmm will have a ponder and will ask LBS for options.

If your spindle is 24/25mm then you can get a reducer to fit the caadx

BB30 is just bearings pressed into frame , The 30 in bb30 refers to thickness of your spindle 30mm, I think yours might be 24/25mm spindle and you may be able to get a reducer which will let you put the 25mm spindle into the 30mm bearings but im not 100% on this.

What height are you btw as Caadx in 56cm is huge?

The geo for the CAADX 56 is a close fit to the stats from my bike fit last week. I'm 5' 11 and fit recommends I go for 555mm. Everything else seems close. CAADX was recommended by the LBS actually because it's a less aggressive geo.

Fit data attached.

You can have a threaded insert pressed into a BB30 bottom bracket shell to convert it to a "normal" bottom bracket capable of taking threaded external bottom brackets such as Shimano's Hollowtech or SRAM's equivalent bottom brackets. My CAAD9 came pre-shimmed as it came fitted with a Tiagra groupset (I was ignorant of this fact at the time and have since learnt about it). This mean's you can use the SRAM Apex chainset. You can press the insert back out of the alu frames (as I will be doing come next spring and the time for changing my groupset to something a bit nicer), but according to a Cannondale manual in my possession, the press fit insert is a permanent addition once inserted into a (Cannondale) carbon frame.

Alternativelly, you could buy a BB30 compatible chainset and bottom bracket.

You should be ok as you will be using your own stem n seatpost , my caadx has 110mm stem and a layback seatpost which makes it feel more like a bike with a 600mm top tube plus stand over height is quite high for a 56cm bike, Im just under 6ft also but if I knew about stem and layback I would of bought the size below, the 56cm caadx is a lot bigger than my 58cm cube to give you an idea of the frame size .

Great bike and actually looks better in the flesh ( mines brushed aluminium).

Question ... The SRAM RED front shifters, can I use a triple crankset with it?

Right now I'm using a double ring APEX. Shifting back down is a double click.

The LBS will charge £85 to transfer all the components across to the CAADX frame which seems well worth it to me.

I'll stick with current cranks for now and get them to use an adapter. Also going to get them to put good gel tape on the bars.
