Guys, need some help... I'm considering buying my first road bike as currently riding a trek hybrid and want a new toy for longer rides... Currently looking at a trek madone 2.3 but wondered what advice some of you experts might have.. Budget is around the 1k mark as buying on cycle to work... Cheers for you help..!

Go test ride it, if it fits you well, is comfortable and makes you smile, then buy it. If not, try some more. No bikes around the 1k mark will be bad bikes ultimately, but they won't all be the one for you

Wise advice from @vickster

I bought a bike without trying it (apart from to sit on it) and it had to be returned - as soon as I cycled it I knew it was just not the fit for me.
I got one that suited me better and after some fine adjustments, I am really happy with it.
Do try some out and take your time choosing!
Happy hunting!

I ride a Trek 1.2, my first road bike, and 2nd Trek. Nicely put together, and reasonably comfy. @vickster has given the best advice, and the sales have started early this year...

Given the op is buying a commuter he may wish to check his purchase will take decent mudguards and potentially a rack. The madobe is racy so may be less suitable

Sound advice, but I wondered given the current market place should I consider stepping up a couple of hundred pounds and pick up a carbon frame or stick with a good quality Alu with good components... I do want to start traveling a bit quicker so think
The race style might suit.. I think to be fair I will continue to use the trek hybrid I already have for the majority of commutes and then use the road bike for the weekend ....
