January 1963 I start my apprenticeship and like others in our town cycle to work (on my old German bike). Six months on and two week holiday starts and I go see the Moulton bicycle I have set my heart on. My parents buy it for me and I pay them back each week.
Work starts and I get some funny looks and comments by the 7.30am men starting for the day. ‘Couldant find a bigger bike then’ and ‘you must have your mums bike’ but I shrug them off. The bike park is huge and I find a lonely spot near the offices. A young lady asks me about my Moulton and I let her have a go. Before you know it there’s two Moulton in the bike park. We become friends and I show her how to adjust things like the three speed hub gear selector etc. More Moulton arrive in the bike park and I’m now a trendy kid with all those young ladies, that’ll show them.
Friday and Saturday night dances at the Assembly rooms and Corn exchange I always use my old bike as I get asked to give the young ladies a crossbar home if it’s getting late. The Ladies love the Moulton Bicycle and I made a lot of friends too.

@dicko I’m so disappointed, when you got to the part about a young lady asking about your Moulton I thought this was going to be lovely heartwarming story about a life long love story.

The young lady worked in the print room as luck would have it I was transferred to the drawing office and had a lot to do with her. Unfortunately I wasn’t on her list 😞

The beauty of the Moulton was besides everyday transport to work it had front and rear carriers. Front carrier for my Wicker fishing basket, Rods and Umbrellas attached to crossbar and rear carrier for my sandwiches and fishing bait etc, such a clever design.

How long did you keep it?

Rode a "standard"for work my mailbag bungeed to the rack for years until i cracked the rear trailing fork with use ...finally donated it many years later to the moulton preservation society including a well greasy thumbed copy of tony hadlands book ...wonderful work horses that no-one seemed to want to nick
