Just bought a new bike! Really excited but feeling a little bit guilty. It's going to be the new 'best bike'. Old commuter is going to be winter hack, piece of cr*p bike is still the one for going to courses on (so I don't mind if it gets nicked but still have to figure out how to get home if that happens!!!). Old best bike is going to be sold...but I really don't want to! I told the wife so I could buy the new one but love the old one too!

What to do?

Tell your wife you don't want to ruin your new bike in the rain so you need the old one for that. She will know it makes sense.

Sell the crap one and buy a better lock . If questioned just act stupid and say that you sold the old one and don't understand what she is talking about . If she pushes it start crying and say sorry or something .
