Has anyone done this route? I was hoping to do this soon, the plan was to start from Lanark as it is easier to get there by train. Not sure how the route is if anyone has any tips?

Can't help, but will be watching this thread with interest, as I am looking to do a Scottish coast to coast route. I live in Largs which would be an obvious start point, and there are a few reasonable looking routes to get to Biggar which is about the mid point. From there, the Tweed Way to Berwick on Tweed. So, like yourself I would be interested to know whether it is a good route and if it is well signed etc..

Hi, I was thinking of doing the C2C, Whitehaven to Sunderland, BUT, being that I live in Scotland, doing a Scottish coast to coast would be preferable. After seeing your post, I took a look online at the Tweed way and found www.cyclescottishborders.com which describes the route as:Challenge - Repeated long hilly stages including remote areas. High degree of self sufficiency required and some require multi-day/night trips.
Brandane - Can you advise on the routes to get from Largs to Biggar? Is it main roads?
Hazel - would you be starting at Biggar?
I like that the cycleway avoids main roads.

My favoured route - avoiding main roads - would be as follows (sorry my techie skills don't extend to posting a map ).....
Largs, Fairlie, Dalry, Stewarton, Fenwick, Eaglesham, Strathaven, Lesmahagow, Lanark, Symington, Biggar.

I know some of the route pretty well, especially that from Peebles going east and actually, this time next week, I'm getting a train up to visit friends in the borders and will undoubtedly be cycling parts of it again.
Lovely cycling along mostly very quiet roads through some gorgeous country. The signposting is a bit iffy and it can be difficult navigating through the towns and out the other side, so take a map.
A few hills, some of them steepish, but nothing insurmountable.
All the borders towns have places to stop for (important) cake and cuppa.
Have fun.

I like the idea of a scottish coast to coast!, I might steal the idea to start on the coast and head over to Lanark. I cycle to work from the North west of Glasgow along the cycle path to Uddingston so know that part of the route and it is really easy!!! There is a website http://www.gobike.org/routes-slan.php which shows routes in and around lanarkshire.

My original plan was to start at Lanark as it is easier to get there by train and head to Thankerton (?) on farm roads until it reaches Biggar to start the route. I did find a wee pamphlet on Watersons which details the route but it is a few years old by Peter Hawkins.
I think this wee trip will be lovely as it crosses some nice countryside and love the idea of coffees and cakes in all the towns!

Thanks for all the info x

Hmmm ... this has me thinking ... A to B (via C) 230 km-ish.

Ayr to Berwick via Coldstream ... could be good for a CCEC2C !
