two bikes stolen twice in less than 6 months

Just posted in stolen bikes but am gutted it's happened again - waiting until Monday to call the insurers.

Locked up properly and securely...

Am disheartened as don't want to in about three months have to reclaim on my insurance again.

Anyone managed to get the Kryptonite AntiTheft Protection offer funded out to them.

Yeah - thanks Arch I wonder if I should buy another Spesh Ruby Elite - I love the way it rides but it's a thief magnet down in the capital.

It would be too injurious if I then claimed for a third time a few months down the line - have to wonder if I can send through my CC kit order now or whether I should save the cash for new bike etc

Where did it get stolen? Outside, or from your home? If you like it you could always be very selective where you lock it up.

I've had a bike stolen and it always makes me very weary about where I lock mine up now.

A determined thief will have your property no matter what precautions you take.

My kid brother had customer whose car had an immobilizer and two wheel clamps fitted to his car. Not a problem for the thieves who turned up with a tow truck....

I have had a bike nicked from our garage where, although the lock that was securing it to another bike defeated the thieves, the frame of the less desired bike was the weak point and the scrote(s) sawed through that frame, levered the tubes apart to slip the lock though and then made off with the expensive bike.

Locks only keep out honest people.

Hi Thomas - sadly I am beginning to feel more like Vernon -

top locks -worth a hefty amount in themselves, due to the theft of the first and original bike back in April/March I am very selective about where the bike is locked up at. Professionals will find a way to get through - they must have had an angle grinder.
It was on Tooley Street -London Bridge was gone for 40mins - too long in this case.

Work doesn't allow me to bring the bike indoors either

The only other option is to never allow the bike out of my sight which isn't practical plus, it means I only get to use the bike on leisure rides/races which take most of the joy out of having a bike in the first place.

I'm assuming you meant lock-otherwise that would be pretty off.

It had two very high end locks on it btw -it wasn't an easy to pick lock or cable lock.

I read that the average cyclist in Amsterdam can expect to have five bikes stolen in their lifetime.

Hope it stops at two for you.

Sorry to here about your theft, I don't know if it is available to the public (but being the business I am in) a few years back we had a bike with tracker fitted (same as you get with cars with a small power source), worked a treat, never lost a single bike may be worth looking in to it, as for locks other posters are spot on it won't stop the thief just slow them down a bit (it does help with insurance claim if you show you took reasonable safe guards to protect your bike though)

To add insult to injury the cost of my bike has gone up by nearly another £500. Add another £100/£200 for locks and this is a solid £600/£700 out of my pocket on top of the monies from my insurance.

High value bike = thief magnet compounded by the general public who are prepared to pay for this bike at such low costs- it's a racing high cost bike so only cyclists who are after a carbon fibre racer (people who know there bikes) will buy this - and if the advert appears on gumtree/ebay like last time - purchaser will know due to poorly written crib story and ridiculously low price this is a stolen bike...they still buy it.

Got this bike from C2W - have paid for more than what it's worth in the tax free savings and more.

I know cycling is a cavernous pit when it comes to expenditure but usually people have the bike at the end of the day.
