Sorry to quote the Daily Mail but this is just so, so ... unbelievable - even here. However I feel the law is too harsh. Threatening to crush a Vauxhall Tigra is a waste of good steel. Crushing the driver would not!

Maybe this would be a better deterrent. Your car is given to somebody in need of one and you, the driver, crushed along with your mobile phones

I’ve always thought crushing perfectly good cars a total waste and the least best option – take the car off the idiots/drug dealers/uninsured by all means, but I’m sure we could come up with better ideas – donate them to charity, add them to car pool schemes, auction them and put the money into uninsured driver accident funds… but crushing them out of spite?

Same thing annoys me about the scrappage scheme ... crushing some perfectly sound cars, just because they are 10 years old and the owner wants something shiny new.

Yes - I agree that crushing them is a bit of a waste!

My favourite suggestion is selling them and putting the money to the uninsured fund!

This would probably make more people upset than the loss of a car , deny them access to texts, my book and face space ,twiting etc .........they might get a life !!!

If they are crushed they cant really have the piss taken out of them by friends, family and lots of internet warriors , crushing is a waste of good time and energy and they might get a sympathy vote ....

I only care that a guy insane enough to do what he did is ever let near a vehicle again. Taking away licence and the insurance he doesn't have is going to make much difference ... we need an offshore island without cars we can exile people like this if you find crushing too, errr bloody.

Did i actually say anything about letting the offender drive again?

All i said was jokingly saying the way people cant live without a phone glued to their hands / ear they might find it more of an inconvenience !!

As for taking away the license and insurance, it does not stop a people that are determined to drive from doing so. .

Your response confuses me. You seem to be taking exception to fact that we agree ... which is dealing with these type of idiots by fines/bans is pointless.

So how do we stop them killing? Crushing/Sark may be frivolous but suggesting a viable alternative is beyond me/you?
