Judging by my calculations (well my geeky spreadsheet actually), my last bicycle commute was practically 3 whole weeks ago
I've had a few meetings out and about that I've needed the car for, a couple of offspring collections after work etc and a couple of rest days after a weekend blast down to Cardiff which took a fair bit out of the legs.
Nothing frustrates me more than driving to work. I can literally hear the pound coins falling out of my exhast pipe with every couple of miles I drive, and I can see the lunchtime Double Decker sticking out of my belly rather than just filling the 1,000 calorie hole that my ride to work and back leaves.
I drove to work yesterday expecting to have to drive a 40 mile round trip to Chester for a meeting that was cancelled 5 minutes after arriving in the office. I didn't like that.
This morning was different however. I mounted the Boardman CX, freshly baby-wiped at the weekend so looking all shiny and clean. I even wore my Team Sky jersey in honour of the boys' splendid TDF performance thus far.
The legs were a little tired from football last night, but there's something so invigorating about the commute that sets it apart from a club run or a leisure ride so I still felt comfortable on the climbs and pushed it down the descents. The morning drizzle was cooling and refreshing, I had no close passes or incidents at all - I don't think I'd have cared if there were. I rode into a slight headwind all the way, but not even that could dampen my spirits.
No meetings for the rest of the week, so every day is going to be a cycling day. And I might even get the new Garmin Edge 500 set up for tomorrow
It's great to be back.
