Two Wheeled Commute - Ah there you are... I've missed you

Judging by my calculations (well my geeky spreadsheet actually), my last bicycle commute was practically 3 whole weeks ago
I've had a few meetings out and about that I've needed the car for, a couple of offspring collections after work etc and a couple of rest days after a weekend blast down to Cardiff which took a fair bit out of the legs.

Nothing frustrates me more than driving to work. I can literally hear the pound coins falling out of my exhast pipe with every couple of miles I drive, and I can see the lunchtime Double Decker sticking out of my belly rather than just filling the 1,000 calorie hole that my ride to work and back leaves.

I drove to work yesterday expecting to have to drive a 40 mile round trip to Chester for a meeting that was cancelled 5 minutes after arriving in the office. I didn't like that.

This morning was different however. I mounted the Boardman CX, freshly baby-wiped at the weekend so looking all shiny and clean. I even wore my Team Sky jersey in honour of the boys' splendid TDF performance thus far.

The legs were a little tired from football last night, but there's something so invigorating about the commute that sets it apart from a club run or a leisure ride so I still felt comfortable on the climbs and pushed it down the descents. The morning drizzle was cooling and refreshing, I had no close passes or incidents at all - I don't think I'd have cared if there were. I rode into a slight headwind all the way, but not even that could dampen my spirits.

No meetings for the rest of the week, so every day is going to be a cycling day. And I might even get the new Garmin Edge 500 set up for tomorrow

It's great to be back.

im a little tea pot
nothing beats the two wheeled commutes!

ive been trying to find ways and convince myself i need to take the car but i have so far failed. My latest one was i need to drive to bristol tonight so was going to stick the bike in the boot out the way so its ready to just hop in and go but i rode in instead and will just have to do it when i get home! i am also loving 4-5 miles at lunch and am getting my climbing legs back as well! loves it.

I've posted similar elsewhere recently, and I'm completely in agreement about missing it. My excuse for the misses is that I'm at an office in Southampton, I've used the bike every day into my local office other than my first day and a day I had to deliver several thousand pamphlets between offices.

And, since mid-April, I've only got wet once on the way in and twice on the way home, which is nice.

Aye, nothing beats the commute. I never drive to work, but occasionally I'll need to take public transport, and I always gaze jealously out the window at any cyclists I see.

3 weeks off is a mare for me (holiday though). Taken 3 weeks to get the legs feeling good, but the weight is on. Gonna take much longer to drop the steaks I was forced to eat in restaurants.

PS I was driving to jobs that were 30 plus miles away, plus travel, for about 8 years. That cost me many Colnagos in fuel and a fair few bikes weight on the belly. Been hard to get back when I changed jobs 5-6 years ago.

Now much happier, and slimmer, but not there yet...... the fuel (food) consumption isn't great yet......
