Clip on bow ties are the way to go. I can tie them but they are too much faff to get just right.

C'nest pas impossible, c'est facile!

Practice on your thigh first. Tie it like shoelaces, then fiddle it into position. Couple of goes, then do it round your neck - done!

I wore a tie to my GFs 'prom'
She even had to tie the tie because i am that useless.

She didnt like my idea of wearing my tux jersey and lycra shorts:sad:
Would have looked good riding from the hotel room to where we meet on my bike in my cycling gear i thought.
But i was told no:sad:

It's basically like tying shoe laces but with a stiffer flatter piece of string. As you tie keep the material as flat as you can - don't twist.

Left over right - pull the ends to the required tightness.

Make the left loop and hold in place.

The right end goes over the left loop and partially through the back of the right end so you make the right loop.

At this point it's all adjustments to get the right shape - balance the loop sizes.

If you're not used to it, it can take several goes before something reasonable shows up.

A tip. It is dead easy to do it on your knee. Just practice. Then cut the back of the tie, apply velcro to each end and make the tie up on your knee - then just transfer it to your neck. This only works with normal collars - not wing collars. Clips are OK, but do not have the style of a properly tied bow tie.
