Ultegra triple to double shifter

Can I restrict a shimano Ultegra ST-6703 (triple) shifter so that it acts as a standard double shifter or do I need to replace the shifter for a double?

I think you need a double shifter, sadly.

No reason why that should be the case. Once the limit screws are set, the shifter should work fine. I have done the same with a Campag shifter and it works fine.

The main element in chainring spacing is the speed of the group - so a 10 speed triple will be good for 10 speed double.

I think Shimano advise that you set it up as the granny ring setting becomes the 39t and therefore the middle ring becomes 53t.

You then limit the movement leaving the third shift unused.

I've ran many a triple shifter with a double chainring, no problem....
