Me, that is. It started when I pulled over (along with a string of traffic) to let an Ambulance through on Lendal Bridge, and the girl on the bike behind me over took me and then hopped onto the pavement and walked along. All it did was get her to the front of the queue at the lights when traffic moved again. I just felt it was rude and impatient to push past me at that stage. And then the guy in the car behind hooted at me to move forward so that he could pull further in, although he was quite far enough over. (I did pull forward, but there was no need really). I think I was annoyed because I'd been able to hear the siren for ages, and had been thinking way ahead, whereas I'm fairly sure he hadn't.

And then I was overtaken by about 5 other cyclists, all of whom appeared to be making no effort whatsoever. Even though I felt I was going quite fast (for me).

And breathe....

Don't let them get to you, Arch! The bunch of five cyclists had only been cycling for a minute before they passed you and were part of a new energy drink sample group. The car driver was just testing his horn after having it fixed yesterday, and the pavement cyclist had left her glasses at home and thought it was a cycle lane.

Not that it will make you feel better... just as I stopped at the lights today, I was undertaken by another cyclist who went straight through the red and got himself peeped by all and sundry (actually missed the car coming across the junction by about 2 feet: he was probably thinking "What skill!", the rest of us were likely thinking 'What a pity...").

Nothing beats a good moan on here. It clears the cobwebs.

Only problem I had this morning was very cold fingers! I think it was about -6C this morning and very icy in places. My altura night vision gloves plus merino liners just couldn't manage to keep my hands from freezing. Apart from that it was a glorious morning.

Hee hee, cheers....

I wouldn't mind if someone passed me looking like they were really trying.... I tried to catch one, and not only failed, but knackered myself so that the slight hill at the end of my trip had me down to a crawl...

Arch don't exercise yourself too much over it. The car driver may well not have heard the siren if his windows were up and the radio was on. His 1st sign of it was possibly seeing it in his rear view mirrors.

Not excusing him but I use pedal power, motor cycle, car with hood down and roofed car and my info intake varies hugely.

No excuse at all for other cyclists.

It wasn't that so much (ambulance was oncoming, BTW, not from behind), it was just that I felt the situation was fine and he obviously disagreed. It wasn't aggro really, just a bit of pique in my case.

I had heard the siren ages before, it was stuck in the traffic for what seemed like ages (the bridge being a bit of a pinch point). Bloody cars, clogging up the roads...

I know the feeling Magnatom, I've not found any gloves that stop my hands from freezing in those sort of temps if riding for more than about 30 mins, the same thing goes for my feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it was that cold here ( I just checked met check it was only -2.6C) the gutter looked a bit icy in places however. I think I was concentrating on the surface rather than positioning though  I got a pretty close overtake from a BMW (surprise, surprise). It was going pretty slow and smooth however so it wasn't really a problem. His girlfriends face was a picture though, I think she thought that he was going to hit me I wish i'd fitted the camera

In that case the driver probably was shielded by the "Shane & Sheryl" banner across the screen.

MMmmm, Archer doesn't usually need to go over Lendal bridge on her way into work.......................;)

Archer is currrently working (I use the term loosely) on her PhD during the day at Marcus's house while he's away, hence a) needing to go over Lendal Bridge and  being on here all day and doing bugger all...

Archer is further thinking that once Marcus comes back (I'm sort of housesitting during the day), she must make more effort to go out for a spin round the block everyday anyway, since she seems to be loosing a mm or two. (either that, or my jeans are stretching)

Overtaken by other cyclists eh? I can't wait until I overtake someone, I'll be posting it in big high letters, I don't care how old or infirm they happen to be. I've actually not overtaken anyone, unless I count the paperboy, but he was stopping and delivering and then re-overtaking me. On my first couple of efforts I was actually passed by pedestrians, as I ground to a halt on my first 'big' hill, before getting off to push. First time I got to the top I was disappointed by the lack of fanfare. Some folks go past so fast I don't even get to see how much easier it is for them.

You'll get there. I used to be really crap at hills. Now I'm just a little bit crap, and I generally get up them, albeit slowly with a lot of swearing. It has a lot to do with practice. My BF grew up cycling in the Cotswolds and could take on any hill, whereas I do most of my cycling in flat York with only occasional weekend trips to Northumberland, and I'm always better on the second day than on the first.

I know someone who used to be overtaken by pedestrians when she was learning to drive! She gave up...

yeah, I treat that hill with disdain now, I can't even admit on here how small and short it was. My latest one is on the way home, 1.1 miles straight uphill. Not steep by cycling standards, but is 16 miles into my commute, so still gives me a feeling of satisfaction when I get to the top, and it's nearly all downhill home from there. My wife is surprised at how I've got on with cycling considering I could get out of breath walking to the toilet before.
