I need help, I want a new bike and thought I prefered the racer type handlebars, But have seen some really nice hybrids. I cant decide if doing without racer handlebars will dissapoint as Im wanting to get some miles in pretty soon, or are the hybrid good for that too. Iv only ever short commuted on the mountain bike so dont really know if these would suit, or would I be seriously dissapointed if I didnt get racer type handlebrs?

Thats what is making it difficult, I do but have seen some lovely hybrids too, decisions decisions. What do you think of the Carrera virtuoso?

I started with a hybrid (Ridgeback Element), I love the bike but after 6 months I was wanting something faster and lighter. So I ended up buying myself a Cube Aerial Comp in hindsight I should have gone straight in for the drop bar bike and saved myself a few hundred quid. I'm now only using the hybrid for wet roads.

Think about the type of commute you have. All on road? Urban?
Hybrids are better IMO for good head-up vision and ease of access to brakes when you need them in a hurry.

Of my five bikes, the flat barred ones, a Trek MTB and a hybrid, get ridden the least and when they do get ridden it's for the shorter rides.

So is riding on the hoods. Col go for drops, so many more hand postions than flat or riser bars.

Col, look at the pics in my profile, butterfly bars, no shortage of hand positions. Plus, they're beautiful, with a curvy grace that makes drops look naff.

Each to their own but I would not put my bikes through the shame of having those fitted.:ohmy:
