I've had sheep and deer do that but nothing ever that big

You should of grabbed hold onto his tail, so you would be dragged along, giving yourself a free ride.
What! Like here???

Runaway horses are scary! I remember, years ago, watching a stage of the ToB (called 'milk race' in those days). There was a riderless horse cantering along just behind the main peloton, threatening to catch up with it. But the marshals managed to divert it down a side road just in time. It continued to run, I don't know what became of it.

I remember just west of Edinburgh, passing a field and a horse bolted out, followed by presumably the rider trying to catch it. I tried to assist in the chase, but I think the bike was simply making the situation worse as the horse was not for slowing down. I decided to stop while the horse went galloping into East Calder.

It was just north of Bristol (the Old Gloucester Road where it goes over the M4 just after junction 19 of the M4 (just before the M4/M5 interchange at Almondsbury where the big RAC tower with the spikey bits). The police turned up just as I was leaving.

I hadn't thought of grabbing the tail. Good shout for next time!

Meeting horses on the road: an everyday occurrence here in Zaaaarrrsex, I think nothing of it. Spooking horses - it doesn't happen very often I have to say, I think what with the number of cyclists on our roads horses are getting used to the idea. Usually the rider can calm the animal before things get out of hand. But I'm always on the alert when passing a horse.

Bolting - incredibly rare. I can think of two occasions in my life when I've felt threatened by a runaway horse. Both were many years ago.

Certainly 'Cantering without Due Care and Attention'. Nearly ran into the red BMW. That's got to be six points minimum...
