why?
Are they there in some sort of official capacity - ushers, security maybe?
Or for reward/recreational purposes perhaps?

Ideas anyone?

You don't need guns to do security - to stop a streaker coming onto the court a quick elbow to the chin would do

Trained killers to stop streakers? jeez I would hate to attend an event you organised the security for!

Yes, but they appear to be RAF and Army, not sailors.

Maybe thats it, the sailors are somewhere else as a decoy! Monty will know, considering his post last night!

P.S. Monty... getting thirsty.... throat dry!

Ohh for some reason I thought you were talking about the plod being there.
The armed forces personel often act as stewards, checking tickets, dealing with people that faint etc.

This is because there is a connection of old between the LTA and the UKAF (UK armed forces)

I think the guys that do it are often volunteers?

The guys that do it are ALWAYS volunteers - a real cushy number, plenty of perks and generally a good laugh. Never did it myself but I know of a few guys that have.

Servicepersons must take annual leave to do the job. They wear uniform and I believe that they get their immediate expenses paid by Wimbledon. On the plus side, they get to watch some cracking (and not so cracking) tennis.

Wimbledon get the benefit of having trained security people acting as ushers / stewards etc.
