I've had 3 punctures in my last 3 rides :surrender:

Now i'm starting to get really annoyed about it! :cursing:

Is it just that i've been unlucky or would anyone suggest getting new tyres - they're currently factory fit for this bike (i wouldn't mind but i've been on a 5day cycling trip/long days out etc without any fault - now suddenly its every ride!!)

Cheers

What sort of punctures ?

Glass, thorns, pinch flats ? Have you got the debris out of the tyres ?

Check the tyres carefully - sounds to me like there's a small shard of glass or something still stuck there. That happened to me recently.

this definitely before I did a big ride recently I got the tyres off and picked out loads of stuff with a scalpel. Some bits were pretty big and could have easily caused a puncture. Going to start doing this ritual every weekend now.

Excluding the obvious thorns and bits of grit\glass in the tyre, I tend to equate frequent punctures with worn out tyres.
My last set managed 8 months with only 3 puntures and then got 1 a week for a month, then a spate of 3 in a single week. Tyres were replaced and no punctures at all after that.

What's the mileage on 'em?

Nothing on the first... It was a big hole.
The second i picked out the glass shard, and i'm that annoyed i haven't got round to fixing the third yet!

The tyres are new with regards to mileage... Not like others i have owned that managed a five day cycling trip without fault

Have you got puncture proof tyres fitted ? I've got Schalbe Marathons on the Spec Sirrus and Spec Crossroads on the MTB and have had no issues with puntures.I rode to Cornwall on the marathons fully loaded and still they never gave up even with al the debris on the road side.

What is factory fit?

i did 700 miles without a puncture, then i had 2 in the same number of days, i thought just like you, a bit deflated!!!
there is nothing you can really do, but buy the best tyre you can afford and tube you can afford, i'm trying the slime tubes, they should plug the gaps the puncture leaves so we'll see what happens.
dont be to put down, these things happen.
only thing i would say is when it rains or just after it rains, all the bits of crap in the road gets washed to the side, so just becareful.

I use thorn resistant inner tubes....a big minus point is they are heavier but in the right places they are four times thicker apparently.Im only commuting so if some old granny overtakes me I wont give up without a fight.

Also must check my tyres after tomorrow although I do rub my hand round the tyre when I get there. Also do that if I run over some glass.

By factory fit i mean i haven't changed them - but i've realised i did now
and no they're not puncture proof sadly.

I did the Manchester-Blackpool no problems on them... Maybe it has just a phase - i'm just a little worried as i'm doing the Manchester 100 miler in 2 and a bit weeks and don't want a puncture ruining my day!?!?!

no reason to use a tyre without a puncture belt unless you're racing

trade off between weight and speed/feel thereafter

When you said factory fit I sort of guessed what you meant...I have a tyre like this on the fixie front...must check it I don't know what inner tube is fitted...but I wouldn't generally trust "factory fit".

Cheers for all the advice... I'm fixing it now!

If i get another puncture tomorrow i will not be responsible for where my bike ends up
Fingers crossed i don't :surrender:
