Okay, I'm in the market for a new bike.
I will say straight off that a road bike is NOT a consideration for me.

My current Saracen (full suss) MTB is old, and heavy. I'd like something lighter and a bit more responsive!
I don't ride technical anymore due to medical issues, but I do enjoy some light trails, and most of my riding is on canal towpaths and cycle paths.
I think that a hardtail with disc brakes would be good for my requirements. Apart from that I'm a bit lost.

I was looking at the Specialized Myka sports (29er) but I read some really rubbish reviews on it and it's put me off.
I'm now looking at the Cannondale Trail 5 29er.

Can anyone suggest anything else for me, around the £600 (or less) mark.

How tall are you? 29ers felt really long and stretched to me and I'm 5'10. Maybe a standard 26" MTB better if smaller

Look at Paul's Cycles, they often have good deals on previous model MTBs  I also got a bargain Kona HT from CRC before

Try a 29er but I reckon you'll find them very long, especially if you like a more upright position, which sounds like you may do

Scotia,

I see you fancy a 29er - they do roll much better than 26" on road and path.

Make sure you try one for size, the front end is high whatever the frame size because of the big wheel and clearance for the suspension force.

At 5ft 10" I reckon you may be too short, unless you have legs like Nicole Scherzinger.

Scotia is 5'7

...I am 5'10 (and not in the market for a new bike)

I think I will see if I can try one first...foremost on my bike, I need to be comfortable due to the arthritis in my neck and spine....if I'm not I just won't ride, and we can't have that!
Thanks for the input, keep the suggestions coming!
