Use of the word 'pimping'

Can we not? Pimping is what pimps did to their cars and outfits to display their wealth. A wealth made off the exploitation of women.

Why not reclaim the word? Originally it meant "to make beautiful" and has been used for over 400 years in various ways before the current usage which is quite close to the original. Are we to allow 1970's Americanisms to dictate language for all time?
