Went down to get my bike last night after work (got secured parking in underground car park for multi occupancy building) and some idiot had leant their bike on mine... what made it worse was that their pedal was resting on the spokes of my rear wheel!! xx(

It wasn't even a case of half their bike resting on mine and the other half resting on the metal bars that were present (2 horizontal bars, 1 at knee height, the other at waist height)... my bike was basically supporting theirs!! Both our bikes were chained to the bottom bar btw.

Made me livid... especially as I had just put a new wheel on (Mavic Open Sport on Tiagra Hub fwiw) only on it's second day of commuting.

Anyway, as I removed my bike, theirs fell onto the lower bar as my bike was no longer there to support it. Felt a bit guilty whilst I was cycling home as I could’ve picked it up and put it up against the top bar but was too mad at the time.

Now that the weather is a bit milder, all the fair weather cyclists are back as the racks were jam packed. Bliss over winter as only about half a dozen bikes are parked there but these last few days has been more like 20-30!!

Sorry, rant over.

So glad I work for a small company and my bike sits next to me against my desk all day! I would be too stressed about leaving it out of sight all day and people doing that would really irritate me.

Obviously you should never 'intentionally' damage another mans/womans steed.... but dont feel guilty!

When I've cycled my new bike to work I've been bringing it into my office rather than leaving it in the secure bike cage. In the cage it would get scratched, bashed etc.

I would love to have my bike sit next to me in the office... but sadly, office not big enough  Probably not a bad thing though as I'd be ogling it all the time  or tempted to fettle with it and not get any work done!!

I got back to my bike (in a similar location) and found somebody had carelessly lifted / thrown an unlocked bike on top of mine. Oh well sh1t happens, I'd much rather have the bike shed too full than have the roads to full with motons but it is the reason why a big heavy hybrid does for my commute rather than my road bikes.

Many a 30-45 minute time wasting session is spent tinkering and tweaking the bike or discussing things. Thankfully the director and a couple of others cycle too so they are usually pretty swiftly up and over to see what I am up to.

The other bike looked brand new (basic Spec Sirrus) and had a massive chain securing it, like one of these. I'm guessing it's a new cyclist who hasn't cottoned on to the etiquettes of using shared bike parking facilities... Or maybe they were trying to get the bikes to mate, what with my bike being a Sirrus as well, although Elite model.

Why can't people just be more considerate??!! It really winds me up. I'm thinking about sticking a bit of paper on my bike with a message like 'DON'T LEAN YOUR BIKE ON ME!!'.

Wigsie - I'm am so envious that you have an understanding Director who not only allows you to park your bike next to your desk... but also joins in when you start fiddling around with it! Do you actually get time to do any work??!!

20% work
75% cycle chat and tinkering/researching new bits
5% drinking tea

Its tough at the top!

Sadly 008, it's because their bike means nothing to them, so no-one elses does either.
I wouldnt lock mine in the works rack...ive seen them untangling bikes, fallen over ones, bikes leant across others ;) It'd do my head in.

I'm lucky, mine stays in the workshops with me, or in the compressor shed.

Was it really worth getting angry over?

At the end of the day, you deemed your bike suitable for commuting so it's got to be strong enough to cope with potholed roads and worse still you coming off.

Maybe turn up one day and watch for the owner of the Sirrus arriving, help him lock his bike up properly. Maybe the rack was full at the time, and yours was a nice looking bike owned by someone who obviously keeps it clean and takes care of it. The guy might have figured if you returned to your bike first, you would handle his bike with same kind of care.

At the end of the day mate, it is just a bike. I know how you feel. But locking a bike up anywhere, on a regular basis makes it hard to keep pristine.

When bike racks are full sometimes the only option for securing your bike is to lean it against another bike.
If you are riding something that can't take the weight of one bike leaning against it, then you probably shouldn't be riding it at all.

I'd be rightly pissed if I came back to my bike to find it had been left knocked over. I'd be angry enough to seek out CCTV footage if I found my bike damaged. *and I always park my bike in front of CCTV cameras*

It's really telling how selfish some people can get from this thread, leaving bikes knocked over, breaking spokes, and generally being horrible to other cyclists.
What sort of people are you if you can't share public facilities nicely.

You're worse than car drivers who think they own the road.

In fairness to Lee, I think he was joking about the broken spokes.
Or at least, I hope he was.

It's not a perfect world twiggy.I try to treat peoples bikes as I would treat my own and I tend to treat people the way they treat me.

+1 its not a perfect world and I am sure the OP didnt intend on doing any damage, to be fair if you are prepared to damage someones bike for whatever reason, what would you be doing on a bike forum??

Yeah, but I try to turn the other cheek, unless it's something obviously deliberate.
Being nasty because someone has been nasty doesn't help. It just gtes everyone upset.

No, it's near the cathedrals in Coventry. Kinda out of the way spot though and a different angle than normal.
