Also don't forget that where you drop your bike off is nowhere near the check-in. It's up at the service yard entrance under the platforms (at the other end of the train from check-in - and they are very long trains...)

Now that is a useful piece of information

We are booked in a similar way with our bikes travelling on Eurostar to Brussels in May. We have to take our bikes to drop off 1.5 hours before departure and have been given a map to help us to find it. When booking, I first checked with the baggage that there were two spaces for fully assembled bicycles. I was told there were spaces on the train I wanted to travel on and I then booked the train and got back to baggage. It was all done fairly quickly. Now all we have to do is take the train to Paddington, cycle from Paddington to St. P and get ourselves and our bikes to Belgium where we are touring Brussels - Antwerp - Ghent - Bruges - Brussels. It is Mr Yoyo's first tour. I have done the Danube from Passau - Vienna. I hope you enjoy it, Vernon. It is a very easy cycle and most enjoyable.

I'm looking forward to my return to Passau. I've reached there in two summer tours from Nantes along the Eurovelo six route. This year will be more relaxed and Budapest is my destination though I might pedal on a bit if time is on my side..

Vernon,

I've taken the bike a couple of times now and it has been painless once the tickets have been issued>

I have always booked the train and then rung the dispatch people at EspritEurope (number on Eurostar site) and had no trouble with there being space for the bike. However I travel at odd times and to be safe you may want to check one of the FNRttC Dieppe threads where the DELL Z method is used (I think: reserve via rail Europe, use reservation number to confirm bike then confirm reservation).

On baggage as suggested above use a couple of "drug dealer bags' to consolidate the panniers etc.

Lastly, the bike dispatch is at the back (non-Euston road end of the station) of St Pancras by the car park. Arrive no later than 1 hour before departure and it helps to bring a copy of the consignment note which is e-mailed to you when you make the reservations. Bags lights pumps etc off bike and away you go. As you enter the station the left baggage is on the left and you can leave stuff there if you have time for stroll in London. If not, grab some food from M&S for the train. It is 5 minutes walk to check in gates and you need to be checked in 30 minutes before departure.

Have a great trip^_^

Does the bagging it up thing work? I'm a colossal pikey and I could really use saving£60 for Dutch beer

Gonna have 2 panniers of clothes and a rack bag with camera/iPad in it on a tricross and I'm going out via Brussels and back via Paris so don't want anything big to bag them up in.
