I really am going to have to pay more attention to the advice given here...

This morning my rear gear cable snapped at the hood, leaving me stuck in a high gear for the last 3rd of my commute. I half-remembered that you could get into a 'get-me-home' gear by using the limit screws on the derailleur, but despite 5 mins of fiddling I couldn't get it to work and couldn't remember if you had to manually push the gears up to a bigger ring and THEN adjust the screws. So my legs got a good workout for the rest of the way, as the only gear changes I had were on the chainrings.

Still, the Halfords just along the road have promised to fit a new cable for free before 4pm, so I'm just back from taking the bike up there. Let's hope they do a good job...

I know.. I know.... I'm picking up my wheel tomorrow that I put in for a rebuild at the end of May. Because it's a Bike2Work bike, I had to do it through them so's not to pay for it. Apparently they lost the wheel, which was why the stopped responding to my calls and emails asking what was happening.

I had considered just buying a cable from them and fitting it when I got home, but I didn't fancy riding in traffic with such limited gears. Cars aren't too happy when you're crawling away from lights / junctions etc after you've stopped. My only option was to use them

I'm hoping I might get a pink, glittery bell added too, Mr Paul. It's being fixed free, so the more extra free pimping they do the better :biggrin:

Well if it's done for free, who cares.....

It never does any harm to re-check things that a bike shop (any kind of bike shop) says they have done, or that you expect them to have done, especially where they affect the safety of the bike.
