I'm doing a short tour from Roscoff to Paris on my road bike in July. I was going to do it all via 'D' roads but am wondering if some of the veloroutes/vois vertes maybe suitable, bearing in mid I'll be on my road bike with 25mm tyres (don't think 28's will fit) and carrying 10kg of kit.

The first section is what I'm most interested in from Roscoff down thru Pontivy to Josselin...

I've searched lots, but it's really not clear whether the surface is suitable for a skinny-tyred roadbike or not. Any help or guidance greatfully appreciated. The sites describe them as re-made railways, but that doesn't really give any indicaton of the surface finish.

Yes definitely take the voie verte from the ferry terminal - much better than the busy D road. There are are a couple of stoney bits but these are avoidable. The rest is along tarmac country lanes or hard-packed aggregate. I followed the road along the river estuary.

In general I never found the voies vertes in this area to be a problem with 25mm tyres, but they do tend to bypass the villages so they are fine for a while but then get a bit dull.
