I thought the whole "another F@@@ S@@@ CRAP moment" thread with the video by Ricky1980 was brutal. Some of the words definitely not minced there!

As it happens, I agree with most of the sentiment (but not most of the message delivery styles) concerning the riding. I think I'm a fairly experienced rider –but obviously you're always on a learning curve, and videos like this can make really good learning tools. However, whenever someone posts a video on this forum it seems they get jumped on –I wonder how many other people don't post videos for this reason (and that is definitely to the detriment of this board and other cyclists). I also have to wonder if everyone rides like they preach, or would even post their own videos –let alone how they would handle such criticism  FWIW, I'm definitely not posting mine; I'd get criticized for riding on the wrong side of the road!

Of course, just because people post their opinions doesn't make them right, and it's up to Ricky1980 to work out whether anything posted was valid. When there's such a consensus though, it's worth giving it a serious evaluation.

Either way, Ricky1980, if you're reading this, please continue to contribute.

Does this really need a new thread?

I get the same response from posting videos on many different forums. Best not to post them unless they are serious.

Any video posted is going to be criticised by someone, even if the rider is a cycling angel:tongue:
It's fairly obvious the internet can be a bruising place especially in the commuting forum so anyone posting a video needs to be thick skinned and take in the general overall opinion rather than opinion from any specific member.

The OP posted on Bike Radar and received a similar response. He didn't go back there either.

It's very like the famous 'I blame Wiggle' thread. Someone barges in blaming someone else, when in fact it is their fault and they've even gone to the trouble of filming it.

I was hoping Ricky would respond to the feedback, perhaps concede he was pushing it a bit or even argue his case. But no response even when I sent him a friendly PM.

I tend to follow channels, rather than watch individual postings, of those people I find put some effort into presentation of the video so it feels more like a show rather than just random footage.

Gaz's and a motorcylist's called Premises187 (I think, at work cant check) are two I'd recommend mainly due to the clips either being entertaining or of value.

Any to throw back at me?

1. I thought a lot of the comment was well-reasoned, and well-intentioned.

2. The OP needed to learn quickly that he has to take some responsibility for his own safety and relying on drivers to be 100% aware, careful and courteous could only lead to disillusionment at best and serious injury at worst.

It would have been better if he had come back to contribute to the discussion - I hope he does. He sounded like a keen, relative newcomer to commuter cycling, still learning the ropes and should have learned a few things about reading the road and positioning from the comments.

Not to mention the number of good people who no longer post on this forum at all for this reason.

The guy's cycling and attitude wasn't great.

The reactions, persistent and repetitive even after it was clear he'd been put right off the forum altogether, were inexcusable.

This isn't the 'fun and friendly' forum with the community it had 3 years ago that achieved things like the guide to new commuters.
