Hi all

I need to sell my lovely bike but I'm not sure what it's worth. See pic via link (hopefully it works!)

<ahref="http://s1275.beta.photobucket.com/u...50746307185078_6376945_o_zps9906e78e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums...5_10150746307185078_6376945_o_zps9906e78e.jpg" border="0" alt="Raleigh bike photo 280395_10150746307185078_6376945_o_zps9906e78e.jpg"/></a>

It no longer has the Brooks leather saddle, and it's missing the tiny piece that keeps the chain guard plate in place but otherwise it's beautiful.

What do you think its worth?

Would be grateful for your thoughts.

That is nice, but losing the Brooks will de-value it a bit.

Have a look on Ebay to see what similar bikes are selling for. I wouldn't attempt to value it myself as although I have similar bikes, they're not in that condition and were free after spending 30 years in a hedgerow somewhere.

Thanks for responding. I was gutted to lose the Brooks. I bought the exact same saddle on ebay for 60quid and that was stolen a month later. They cut through the chain to get the saddle and after that, I just figured it wasn't worth buying a new one. I've had a look online and there are bikes that look in worse condition selling for around 150...

Also, any tips on getting the the clip for the chain guard plate? I've had a look online but no luck so far...

You could look out for other similar leather saddles that are by less well known brands like Wrights, Middlemore, Lycetts etc. Dunlop made a copy of these but with "weatherproof" rubber rather than leather. All would be cheaper than a Brooks.

Unless you know someone local to you who collects/restores old bikes and is likely to have all sorts of bits and pieces stored away, finding parts for a chaincase could be tricky. They do turn up on Ebay but they are often over-priced and many different types were used.

tyred is correct about the saddle but wrights, Lycetts etc don't turn up very often and are not that much cheaper when they do [if in any usable condition]. However there are several leather saddles from the far east on E bay at the mo for reasonable prices They look the part even if they don't have the name, [would look better than some modern plastic rubbish anyway].
If you need only a small bracket it may worth searching out a model engineer [ask at a local model engineering supliers [check the yelow pages] if there is anyone or a club nearby], they can be very helpfull.

You will find most good model shops stock brass stip which you could easily bend up and drill to make a bracket. Paint with small tinlet of Humbrol enamel from the same source.

Regarding value it depends what anybody is prepared to pay. The bike is very lovely but might not be worth an awful lot. Bear in mind someone will have to collect it as it will be difficult to send by courier without damage.
