I was having a well earned Cornish Pasty on the seafront when a seagull swooped and stole half of it. I was quite shocked and a little shaken. I wonder if anyone else has experienced anything like this of having seagull steal your food? I think coucils and the food outlets should put up warning signs. There is signs in Looe in Cornwall warning people about viscious seagulls. My incident was in Aberystwyth so be warned if you are having anything to eat on the seafront or where seagullls are about

I was in Staithes (NE coast) and saw a seagull snatch a whole ice cream out of someone's hand. The cafes had warning signs up about not feeding the gulls.

It's very common. Many places have warning signs about them, many have signs asking people not to feed them. Never forget that those beaks can smash limpet shells. They make a mess of humans too if they feel like it.

Watch out for them and take care.

The ones in Ilfracombe are very good at stealing fish and/or chips from people sitting on the harbour wall and get violent towards anyone trying to stop their raids.

Ask for a napkin at the chippy, and remember to keep them covered at all times.

Apparently they used to catch seagulls and then feed them grain until they stopped stinking and finally ate them. This sounds like a plan well worth reviving.

My two year old son had his chips nicked in St Margarets bay, Kent. We weren't watching him, he started screaming, we turned round and he was nose to beak with a herring gul.

I went as a volunteer helper when my wife's school took a year group on a residential trip, which included a day trip to Hastings.

At the end of the visit, our last port of call was a stall on the seafront selling sweets. One child got buzzed by a gull which stole a sweet from out of his hand.

Noisy horrible ugly unpredictable things. And the seagulls aren't very nice, either.......

Can't they be given ASBirds?

I live right by the sea in Ramsgate, Kent and my fiance and I had just moved into our new flat which has a balcony. I was cooking a full english brekkie and while it was cooking I took some toast out to David who was sat on the balcony. I hadn't even stepped out the door when a seagull swooped down and nearly landed on David's head! I'd never seen him move so quick! My idea of a BBQ on the balcony soon went out the window!

I believe @Tim Hall donated some toast to a gull after a night ride once - there might even be a photo?

When I was working as a van driver I had a drop off on the south coast, I cant remember where now, I stopped on the sea front after doing the delivery and was going to have my sandwiches there, as I was sat on a bench trying work out how I was going to eat without getting mobbed a couple walked onto the seafront carrying two large bags of chips, I was able to eat in peace as the local seagulls mobbed the couple and took no notice of me.

That sea gull is definitely a jail bird. Should be caged in C-Wing.

Amazing the fact that it can eat a 250g bag of Doritos everyday. Does it realise the damage it is doing to it's health? High cholesterol increased risk of heart attack? It didn't even attempt to pay. Maybe the shop should put fruit and veg in place of the crisps instead or even nuts, bird seed?
