I just registered so hello all.
i've had a viscount aerospace for about 6 months and i need to replace the 10speed chainset but am unable to find one around as all current replacements will not fit the bracket, wheres the best place online where i could acquire one?

Is it the BB length thats the problem?

i have been told it is, all new chainset bb's are not long enough and i need to go for older models for the right size.
the problem occurred when the previous pedals were put on and the axels were not greased so they were just chewed up, so when i went to replace the pedals the axel had been completely chewed up, therefore a new chainset was needed.

This the sort of thing you are looking for?
Basic Japanese quality, for JIS square taper bottom bracket, steel 52/42 rings, alloy cranks....typical sort of thing from a "10 speed" from the 70's or 80's.

Shouldn't be too hard to find on ebay, or if you have a local recycling place?

that looks like the right part, i expect you can get both left and right hand cranks together, as if I'm replacing one i might as well go all out.
