It must have been crazy fun and dangerous as hell all in one on board a B17

The rate of atrition in those B17s was truly terrifying. It wasn't untill they were escorted to the target by Mustangs with drop tanks that they had any sort of chance.

Not much you can do when centrifugal forces keep you pinned to the wall of the plane that's burning and going down.

I don't want to put a downer on what is a fascinating historical record but, what I find really sad is that, because of seeing so many war films/special effects etc, we forget we are actually watching the death of so many young men and 'enjoying' the spectacle.
