Dishwasher...then a rinse under a hot hot hot tap for about a minute each item...then in the bowl for a damn good scrub with hot water and Fairy Liquid...rinse off under a hot tap..each item about a min...back into the dishwasher for at least three sessions on super wash....take them out...another rinse in hot hot hot..then over to the dog to lick off any bits missed.....back into the cupboard.

Simple.

Why bother using the dishwasher then after all that?

I used to have a small dishwasher then it broke & too expensive to repair, then whilst I had the space on the worktop it took up, decided the space was more valuable than the dishwasher. I must say, I would have a dishwasher if I had a larger kitchen.

Is it true that residue of washing up liquid is dangerous to cats?

I'm a rinser. I doubt if washing-up liquid has anything hazardous to health in it (surely if it did, there'd have been a National Health Scare of Monumental Proportions by now, with Questions Asked In The House, Howling Headlines in the Tabloids, and Ministerial Resignations and all that...) but I'm a rinser all the same. The amount of water wasted is minimal, in any case the rinsing water ends up in the washing-up bowl replenishing that which has been spilt anyway.

I once had a big argument with someone over wine glasses. I was washing up but they were his glasses. He refused to let me rinse or dry, he said that it was the residue of washing-up liquid that gave the glasses their 'sparkle' (I think that's what he said). I think I retorted, fine if that's how you want it, but I don't want my wine tasting of Fairy Liquid, find me something else to drink it out of...

Never rinse mine - food tastes just fine to me. I find a running tap a complete waste of water and energy.

Me too.

What annoys me is when people put dishes in the sink "to soak". I have some friends who do this and all it means is that you have to fish a load of greasy dishes out of a bowlful of cold greasy water with all food floating in it before you can wash anything.

The only exception to my "no rinse" rule is glasses, because washing up liquid residue makes beer go flat.
If there is a residue that affects the beer then I'd rather it wasn't left on my washing up to be consumed with my food.

Well you can't be too careful ? What with salmonella, botulism, ebola, dengue fever, global warming, traffic wardens etc
