No I'm after something nice that I like the look of.
I'm thinking about one of the Mondaines in a 35mm which is a mid size.
I have a Mondaine stop2go also... chic and timeless design!

This one I like, nice and easy to read, no roman numerals which I dislike and a strap. No date either as often I've found that the date part stops working after a bit.
I used to wear those, but you are paying a hefty premium for the (lovely, classic) design (open the back to see a tiny button quartz movement, the strap tends to delaminate quite quickly too) Consider one of those, but with an automatic movement. As an alternative, have a look at the Citizen titanium range, mid-sized in the main, and eco-drive (sunshine) powered. I have an original Ray Mears titanium from that range and it's a great piece of kit. Or a Seiko 5 automatic for buttons, but with some real engineering integrity, if that matters

Thank you for this.
Did you find that the Mondaine was robust enough or did the case look tatty quickly.I've read a couple of reviews where people said it looked tired after a few months and thats the watch not the strap! Do you mean the Seiko 5 with the fabric strap? Do you think that one would be suitable for a woman with a different strap of course.
The case is quite sharp-edged, so yes it does get abraded more than a curved one. It also has mineral glass (not sure if some have sapphire glass, but I would always pay a premium to have that as it's so much more durable).

The 5? Yes, absolutely. It's a great thing and a classic in its own right. Close up shots and review here:
