Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
Having booked my April C2C trip (see: http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/anyone-else-doing-c2c-14-15-april-2012.95090/ ) I'm now planning the May one. June/July TPT trip to follow. On 14-15 July I'm doing the 3 Peaks of the UK in 24 hours for charity, so SWMBO's been convinced that these are preparation

Suggestion is:

Up to parents (near Settle) Fri eve, train Long Preston - Morecambe Sat am. Start 9am Sat:
Sat 26: Morecambe - Pately Bridge: 62 miles (+ 10 :bicycle: to Long Preston or kind wife :hugs: )

Sun 27: Pately Bridge - Bridlington: 108 miles. Then a train back to Dewsbury from Brid.

Alternatively; up to Morecambe Saturday, ride to Settle/Horton in Ribblesdale (31 miles) then from there to Brid on the Sunday (143 miles). Not sure about that option!

Does that seem sensible? Or rather do-able? Any suggestions for where to stay at Pately Bridge?

If you push on a bit further you won't have the hills to climb first thing on day two?

Ive stayed in Pately Bridge on many of occasion doing Sean flynn's Dales audax grimpeurs. Most times its been in a doss bag outside the scout hut at the start though on a few occasions I have stayed in BB's. Plenty to choose from

I did it over 3 days, starting around 1pm from Morecambe on the first day. A couple of big climbs, esp the one out of Settle, but I think a reasonably fit cyclist could manage it in 2 days, or maybe 1 if you are really fit & can set off early enough
We stayed at http://www.stayatlockhouse.co.uk/ at Boroughbridge & would recommend that, very nice stay there

I could - looking at the map there's only 1 climb (to Watergate) at the start and then it's pretty much flat the whole way. That was the thought, particularly if I've got a very early start.

I've done on 2 separate occasions over a day, albeit I went to Scarborough as it has better rail connections and I avoided York.

If I were you I would aim to get to Ripon on day 1 and then you have got the hills out of the way, plus there is a great cycle cafe in Ripon (Sun tea rooms I think it's called).

I'd quite like to do it again too.

I've done most of the route and would suggest that you either try and do it over three days or have two more evenly spaced days.

There are some significant hills to go over in the Dales and Wolds, and I would personally grade the one out of Settle as "impossible" if you are carrying any amount of gear - I certainly had to get off and push.

A group of us did the Way of the Roses over 2 days last year so you're plans are perfectly do-able. Great route, very well thought out on mostly quiet roads and well signed. Plenty of cafes, pubs and convenience shops on the way. We decided to split the route down the middle and stopped in Boroughbridge on the first night. That made for a very tough day 1 with all the climbs on day 1 but it meant the second day was quite straight forward with it being all flat, barring a slight climb out of Pocklington over the Wolds. We had lunch in the Red Lion pub in Burnsall on day one (would recommend) and in a fish and chip shop in Pockington on day 2.

Morecambe is a dump. Bridlington is a decent town.

Only comment about staying in Pately is that you'll start day 2 with a tough climb over Brimham Rocks. Why not push on a bit further to either Ripon or Boroughbridge and get the climbs out the way?

We're doing it again this year, but this time in a day. Eeek. Yet to finalise on a route, but going to trim 15 to 20 miles off the official route to make it a 150odd mile route.

Good luck.

Thanks to those commenting.

It's got a bit more complicated in that I'm also training for a 3 Peaks in 24 Hours walk in July. One of the compulsory training walks is that weekend to do the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire.

Currently the revised route is:

Fri 25: Up to Morecambe, ride to Horton in Ribblesdale (parents)
Sat 26: 3 Peaks of Yorkshire walk
Sun 27: Horton via Settle through to Boroughbridge
Mon 28: Boroughbridge to Bridlington
Tue 29: Well-earned rest!
