Wearing hi-viz ironically

I was out and about in the deepest depths of the Kent countryside this morning and saw a chap out walking wearing a camofluage jacket with a hi-viz vest over the top. Or, did I only see the hi-viz?

I bet you only saw the hi-vis. Least he had the sense to wear it. A lot of countryside clothing (let alone camouflage) is perfectly coloured for making you invisible to motorists, especially in dull weather.

Those of us old enough may remember the 'wear something light' adverts of the 1960's. I think they should bring them back!

Talking of hi-vis, my son got taken to task for not wearing a standard school uniform coat (Navy Blue) and I have yet to ask the HM if he is prepared to accept responsibility should said son get knocked down by a car on his way home. The brighter the better in my book.

Absolutely. It never ceases to amaze me how many people walk on unlit roads dressed from head to toe in black.

yes, my daughter's high school specifies dark coats to be worn over uniform. when kids that age are likely to eschew hi-viz for its 'uncool' factor, surely they could at least be encouraged to wear a light coloured coat in a fashion of their choosing. it's not like they'll wear it around the school is it?

If this were really the case then why is it not in the figures

ALthiugh a few years ago Gosport had the third highest cycle commuting percentage in the country and a significant number of these are serice personnel and wear camouflage combats for cycling. The same is true for any service town

Why are therere no high casualty stats in these places to reflect this recklessness?

Because Mr/Mrs Moton are scared of getting a (rightly deserved) kicking off a squaddie/sailor/marine if they knock them off a bike, perhaps?

Funny how potential consequences can affect poor driving behaviour, isn't it?

It was midday and quite a bright day (where I was) and I'd seen him from quite a way off and it was when I got nearer that I saw the hi-viz. He was perfectly silhouetted (?) against the bare hedgerows, rendering the hi-viz useless.

Urmm, I'm not sure what your daughters school is like, but we would; we hate our school uniform. Not helping the arguement though so I'll go grap my coat and head out.:birthday:

Quite frequently seen, and some shoots are contemplating recommending / stipulating it.

Hi viz stuff isn't generally hi viz to animals, so the camouflage breaks up the outline of the body but the hi viz patches mean that you reduce the chance of shooting each other, apparently.

The H&S muppets insist we wear flouro every time we walk around our factory compound. Presumably if I'm wearing the flouro vest I can step out in front of a truck and I won't be injured then?

Of course. It's the same as hiding under the bed covers when you think there's a raving lunatic of an axe man wandering around your home! It's foolproof!

Talking of school uniforms being hard to see in twilight/dark and after the death of two school children on a dark country road one local school redesigned their uniform with a reflective trim. This was done in conjunction with the kids so that the uniform remained acceptable to all. This is the way forward!
