Week off next week, anyone free for a ride out and about in Hertfordshire?

Week off from Monday 7th March and weather permitting I would like to get a few rides in. Once the family has gone to work/school I should be free for the day. Normally have to be home by 3 for my son when he comes home from school, but in the event of a long ride out I'm sure he can walk to his Nan's.

Not sure what days I'm available yet but if anyone fancies joining me I'm sure we can organize something with a cafe stop or 2.

Normally I'd say yes but at the mo next week has "nightmare" written all over it. Only day that's remotely possible is the Friday and I can't guarantee that until closer to the time.

lazyj - how do you fancy a night-time recce ride from central London to Southend? Her Nibs is in New York next week, and I'm free to keep the hours I want. Tuesday or Wednesday night? It will be cold, but dry.

We could take in a dry, or not so dry run to the toilets in the 24 hour Tesco at Chadwell Heath. Now, if that doesn't whet your appetite, nothing will...

This could be a possibility, I am hoping to do my first 100 mile ride on Tuesday, so as long as I'm recovered Wednesday night would be good. Will you be cycling back to London or get the train? What sort of average speed are you looking at?

train yes, and slow. There's usually a bit of faffing around while I take pics and make notes

I'd like to leave bang on midnight, although a few minutes later wouldn't hurt.

Tbh we've done the route out as far as Ilford enough times at night for that section to be about nothing more than potholes - and the next 25 miles or so is about refinement more than anything else - the best way in to and out of Tescos, whether it's worth taking a diversion on to the cycle route on the way in to Romford, what the phasing of the lights is like at that time of night in Romford (I know I'm making it seem unfeasibly glamourous).

We can pick up a coffee at a petrol station just east of Brentwood, but there won't be much else open on the way to Southend.
