Yesterday I bought a carton of a drink called "Oatly" which is made in Landskrona in Sweden from Oat extract. It's odd but OK and is sold as an alternative to milk and soya drinks. Anybody else tried it and is it of any particular nutritional value?

Is this connected to your posts on another thread re drinks which would enable you to shag all night?

...hence the phrase to sow one's oats.

I like it. I bought it once for someone who couldn't have proper milk, and to my surprise I found myself downing it in chilled half-pints. Mind you, all it is is oaty water. They make a big fuss on the carton about clever Swedish processes (and charge a fortune), but I reckon it would be very easy to make. I guess its nutritional value is similar to very thin porridge. I wouldn't put it in tea or coffee.

I was actually wondering if it would make sense to make porridge with it, using it in lieu of milk/water.

How much does it cost in the UK? I think I paid less than 3 Euros (2.4 quid) for a litre.

I reckon that's madness. If you make porridge with water you've effectively made Oatly anyway. For the tiny bit of extra oatiness, you're paying more than it costs for a 1.5 kilos of oatmeal. Tell me you don't think 2 1/2 quid for oaty water is cheap!

You could probably guess that I have!

I like their products.

No, I meant would it be feasible to make a kind of porridge out of oats and this stuff, not instead of oats?

I know, but I still think it's madness. The porridge would be fine, but not significantly better than made with just water and oats. Significantly more expensive, though, because the oatly is £2.40 per litre and the water is, er, free.

How funny...I tried that product yesterday for work purposes.

Thought it was minging!! Worse than the rice milk i'd tried earlier which I had thought was the nadir of milks!
