i have a yearning for a hub gear MTB, but i'm poor , i build all my bikes from salvaged bits , so i'm thinking of marrying up a vintage Sturmey Archer hub to an ally frame MTB, i'm an engineer and welder so can anyone tell me what kind of jig i need to weld in new dropouts , has this ever been done ? A picture would be something to go on.

Theres also the problem of the hub gear axle not being anything like the right width for the MTB frame !

With a steel MTB you should be able to cold set to the right rear width. As for the dropouts, why not just add a chain tensioner/old rear mech and use the ones it already has?
