Just finished Empty Cradles (about child migration), thought it was ok but probably a bit too long and I think I only finished it for the sake of it. Interesting subject though. Now I'm away to start 12 Years a Slave after giving Skagboys (Irvine Welsh) about 20 pages before deciding it's gash. Which is a shame because I used to quite like his stuff.

What's everyone else reading at the moment? Reviews please!

I've just arrived in Zimbabwe at the start of a 2 week trip and got a pile of books to read - currently half way through Nightwoods by Charles Frazier, which is every bit as enjoyable and well written as his first novel, Cold Mountain.

I am reading Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy (not bad), A Proper Marriage by Doris Lessing (boring) , Faber & Kells Heating and Air-Conditioning of Buildings (boring, poorly edited, and sometimes inaccurate) and Language, the cultural tool by Daniel Everett (hard going).

I've just finished Monuments Men, a good read.

I'm also working through the midwife books, nearly finished the second, all good so far.

I'm not really into fiction, and I read that much that once a month or so I'll visit The Works and stock up, it'd cost me a fortune otherwise.

I'm reading Learning Raspberry Pi with Linux by Peter Membrey and David Hows.

It's a superficial book and is ideal for those in total ignorance of both Linux and the intricacies of computer hardware. A smattering of knowledge while often proclaimed to be a dangerous thing actually renders the book superfluous. Patient readers will have their Internet research rewarded with a more in depth and coherent approach to get the most from your Raspberry Pi.

Currently I get more from my pork pies.
