@2pies I have never raced in an official event. So my use of the term racing I suppose is quite vague. I have test ridden a few race bikes, some carbon, some aluminium frame and I really loved the responsiveness and the feel when you ride that type of bike. In caparison to my old touring bike which I have now passed on to my friend.

James.

OK. What is your definition of Light Touring then? I did a 2-day tour last year, 160m on the first day and 140m on the second. That was on my Alu road bike.

I still think a Sportive style bike made of Ti or Steel would meet all your requirements - fast, comfortable, durable and able to attach a couple of panniers. Ti would be that bit lighter but you'll probably have to compromise on components, but they can be upgraded later.
