hello , im new to this forum and need some help . I enjoy cycling on the road and use a Carrera virtuoso ltd , but when I noticed my firm dose a wheels to work scheme I jumped at the chance and am now waiting for my 1000 pound voucher to come . but im unsure what to go for , it has to be from halfords so im thinking the boardman road comp or the boardman team carbon . my only worry is im 89 kg and just a bit worried about a full carbon bike . help me out if you can please .

Carbon is as strong as aluminium. I am a similar weight and have no issues. Indeed, I was probably heavier when I got the bike

There are practicalities to consider - if a C2W bike, presumably it will be a commuter - fitting racks and mudguards to a carbon bike can be problematic

Halfords can source bikes from other manufacturers and there are independent bike shops which accept the Halfords vouchers, so you are not as restricted as you may have thought

You could consider the CX team, has lugs for rack and guards (except the front forks but cable ties suffice) and will handle pretty much anything you can throw at it. Makes for an excellent commuter.

What Dave W said!! I have the old style CX team and it went through last winter and this summer with no problems. Plus it takes a rack and mudguards with relative ease!! I say relative as you have to do some "creative bending" to for the front mudguard stays around the disk brake caliper. And if Halfords try to tell you otherwise, "yes, it can be done!!".

hi thanks for the replies , I think what im trying to ask is if a carbon bike would take a fat lad like me ?

You're not that fat unless you are 5'1 ;)

Some manufacturers do have weight limites but normally 16 or 17 stone+. If the Boardman wheels are made of cheese you may want to upgrade at some point

I think there Mavic CXP-22S
I have these wheels on my Boardman, and whilst heavy, they are bombproof.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
What everyone has said above is spot on, for commuting i would seriously consider the cx which you could always change the tyres in summer for something racier.
I have the road comp(wish i had gone for the full 1k ) and its a great bike but with no rack mounts even with crud mudgaurds i would not like to commute on it as i hate the sweaty back a back pack gives and its white so would look cack in no time.

My OH is over 92kg and he has a Boardman Team Carbon Ltd (The white carbon one) and he adores it. He adores it so much that it's actually clean!
He will upgrade the Tiagra/105s to full 105s but not this week. Its on the 'to do' list.

I will be using it to get to work a couple of times aweek but it will be my fun bike also. I do like the look of the cx aswell i might look into it a bit more. I feel a bit more relaxed now you'v said a cardon bike will take my weight. Thanks people
