What cycling related items have you had stolen from work?

I work for a large NHS Trust in the West Midlands. I make sure I remove lights, cycle computer, pump and saddle bag from the bike as they would go walkies.

But I also have to lock away all my clothes as someone decided to steal my sealskins socks. They did turn up again after two months though. I hope they had good use out of them. Also had a pump stolen.

I also had my glasses stolen when I left them on the side to have a shower. But again these then turn up again after six months.

You think you can trust staff in the NHS. No chance. I left my immediate Life Support book on the side for five minutes. When I remembered about it I went back to get it. Guess what, gone and never seen again.

When you report thefts, the victim seems to get more of the blame than the person who has stolen it.

You get, you should have done this, should have done that, you should keep it with you, keep it locked up etc..
Quite correct to a point, but if you can't even trust your own colleagues then who can you trust.

They should be looking out for the staff that commit thefts and not blame the person that gets his/her items stolen.

So anybody had any cycle related items stolen?

None touch wood, although I was sure on Thursday somebody had nicked my helmet as a joke. Glad I never accused anybody I went home that night to see it sitting on the sofa

Almost none. I had a cheap track pump which I used to leave near the bike stand in case I needed it. That went after a while. Ages ago one of my colleagues "stole" my bike and hid it in the warehouse (ho ho ho). They wouldn't do that now tho', the culture has changed somewhat since.

Not had anything pinched at work. I work on a secure campus - so several people don't even bother locking their bike in the shed. I usually do, but not always (somethimes I've forgot my key:blush:).

Clothes tend to stay within a few feet of my desk, so not likely to get nicked. When something is left in one the the showers, it's usually left there so the owner can reclaim it.

I suspect I'm fairly lucky in this respect.

Nothing stolen but I had an usettling 'experience' in the changing rooms last week. I normally shower in the morning and leave my cycling gear and towel hanging up to air/dry. Then change for going home and put stuff, including towel, away in locker. Had half day last Thursday so cycled in at lunchtime and showered at the same time as another guy that had been in the gym. Then I see him drying himself with paper towels, so we had a 'manly' laugh about him forgetting his towel. His next line:-

'yeah, bit unlucky, normally there's one hanging around'

gross, my towel now goes in my locker damp in the morning, I'll even bring a fresh one each day if need bexx(

First time I've ever been glad we don't have showers where I work!

Nothing here - but I don't leave my kit hanging anywhere other than my office.

In the past (open plan office) I've had my helmet 'hidden' - I went mad as the fella that did it had no idea what they cost.....he soon gave it back. The bloody thing was still weat with sweat anyway - I'd not be pinching sweatty clothes. Odd bloke !

I have never had any cycling stuff stolen from work. I also work for the NHS, but in our place you could leave £100 and a Mars Bar out on a desk and you would lose the Mars Bar but the money wouldn't be touched.

None, but the bike goes in a shed with a combination lock on and 7-8 other users. Apart from the theft, it would be a bit of a nightmare I suppose if something did go walking cos with so few people would be a bit of a bad atmosphere/who-done-it scenario.

I've had gloves and a head band swiped from the rad outside my office. Always keep my eyes out in case I see them being worn.

What hospital is it OP as I know there's some bad thieving going on at a certain one.

Anyone that knows me would not dare touch my things... I once caught someone loosening my skewers, so i stole 3 wheel nuts from his car only after i did this did he realise why it was not funny to mess with people's wheels.
