What is it with some riders?

When out driving, other drivers tend not to wave at me. Should I take this as a personal offence and sign of their rudeness? Of course not. When I'm out cycling, some folk wave, some don't. I don't take personal offence at those who don't bother to wave. On a quiet road, if another cyclist is coming along and pleasantries are exchanged, it's nice. But if they're not, so what, I'm not going to let that bother me.

As a BMW driver, I always get waved at by other BMW drivers! If we see each other in service area's we always greet with the secret hand shake, nod and salute, then we tend to share a coffee and discuss methods of mowing down cyclists!

When on my bike I have my Beemdar on (similar to a gaydar) so I don't get bothered by any BMW's.

I often see people waving and even manically gesticulating towards me when I'm driving. Some even raise their fist in an act of solidarity, and shout encouragement in my direction.

All of these threads go in the same direction:

OP: I waved at a roadie and he ignored me
replies:
yeah, some people are snobs
I'm a roadie who waves at everyone
roadies are gay!
hey, he was busy doing what he enjoys doing, riding a bike, maybe he was too in the zone to notice you

Who gives a damn that a complete stranger didn't wave at you?

I thought this was funny when I read it :biggrin:

It's not that secret, as we all know that the sign for a BMW driver is the male appendage growing out of top of head sign :biggrin:

Basically a lot of roadies are w--k--ers, Hes probably just bought a new pair of gloves and now he thinks hes Lance Armstrong. A few days ago i was Lycra man on my racer, bloke came the other way on his racer , we both gave each other the nod.

Today I'm t shirt man on the mtb , helmet and spds but t shirt and shorts in between, same bloke passed me- i gave him the nod , he blanked me.

so you ain't got to worry about Berk's like that, also there probably not good enough riders to take there eyes of the road and look across, so you have to make allowances.

I think that if they are anything like me they are possibly concentrating on their training and while quite happy to give a wave to passing cyclist are sometimes too busy trying to avoid being killed that they miss one or two.

Thats the sign... but not he handshake, we need the handshake to distinguish between ourselves and White Van men, 4X4 drivers, Cycling snobs and Americans who all have said appendage growing from their brow!

And maybe people are a little pissed off at being called self-gratification artists because they don't give you a kiss when they see you.Try growing up.

+1

Some of you must have very little going on if you feel so miffed by a blank.
