Having recently returned from a few days away, when I was unpacking I took out various item of the 'just in case' variety.
Now this is when you're staying in a bricks & mortar establishment, not camping which is a whole different 'list', so let's get rolling - ! ^_^
My list - Travel alarm, first aid kit, multi tool, wee torch, wet wipes, mini cutlery set or spork, wee sewing kit, selection of salt & pepper sachets. :okay:
Over the years, I've rarely needed to use more than one or two on my list, BUT you never know - !

Define few days away and activity ?. If just a holiday (no bike), then spare undies ! Seriously though, I will make sure we have enough paracetamol/ibuprofen next time as it cost £8 a packet in Italy, and I was struggling with my hip !

We always take a long 4 way extension lead

Sometimes a hotel will refurbish a room but cut the cost by leaving the power sockets in the same place as before
so you don;t have one handy for the table/bed

and we need power for several things and a 4 way lead has helped a lot of times
especially abroad as then you only need one EU-UK convertor and get 4 sockets for phone/Kindle chargers!

Same here on the extension lead but if we're going to Italy then I take one with an Italian plug.
Leatherman multitool.
Small 100mm x 100mm choppingboard for lime/lemon.
Painkillers/stomach tablets.
Tea bags.
Swimming cap for italy as they are compulsary (for swimming...) in most places.

Oh yes - forgot about that
enough Green Tea bags for the whole holiday for one person - female

I'll drink coffee - tea abroad too dodgy!!!

We have considered a travel kettle
we went to the Dominican Republic once for Christmas and only had a coffee machine in the room
there were decent tea bags - but coffee machine can;t make proper tea!!!

By the time we left we had trained the coffee bar staff to make tea properly
and the American Bar staff were trained to NOT automatically put water and ice in decent Scotch!!!

Honestly - we gave up the USA far too soon - more education was needed!!!

Tea bags!

The last work trip I did we stayed in an hotel that didn't even have a kettle in the room. The only food & drink options in the hotel were from vending machines. As I knew in advance I bought a vintage mini cup water heater so that I could at least have a cup of tea when I got up.

I always take a torch as a hang over from when power cuts were quite common in southern Europe. I now do it out of habit.
Corkscrew bottle opener has proven useful more often.

Away on the bike, or away on the jollies?
Parts for’n, or parts domestic?

I always take Aspirin, a hat, and cash (as appropriate) with a credit card as back-up.
