It's a bit more complicated than that...
Most domestic products include a disclaimer that the warranty won't apply if you use it professionally. I'd bet that the "pro" products don't include that disclaimer. So if you're a cafe and you buy a domestic fryer you can't claim if it breaks down.

surely you still get the 12 month warranty simply because it's electrical???

Professional gear should be capable of higher/longer usage than non-prof...
Also, real professional equipment won't be found for sale in a supermarket's isle.
A professional deep fat fryer needs to be wired up by a professional electrician and has the capacity of a 10 lt oil drum. Costs about £ 400 depending on model

If you buy a product for business use the warranty is way different to one for a normal retail customer. Mind you I supply business users and they do not understand that concept.

With woodworking machinery they use the terms hobby and trade which means the hobby machines is smaller and lighter and build quality may not be as good. With the trade machine they may be in use all day long whwereas the hobby stuff may only be built to ,last a few hours a week but you can still earn a living using a hobby bandsaw, lathe or router. Many so called professionals are incompetant, useless, overcharge and see customers or "clients" merely as walking cash machines.
