When I went to a all you can eat Chinese buffet on Tuesday, I wondered what the "current new" Chinese staff think of us Brits. There were a surprisingly large number of obese people and quite a few morbidly obese people. A friend from an Eastern European country who started her working life in the UK working at MacDonalds said her opinion was we are a country of fat lazy bar stewards, although her original opinion seemed to be based on episodes of Sherlock Holmes and Mrs Marple.

China has a huge obesity problem of its own. It's serious enough to warrant its own wikipedia page, which states that more than one in five of the world's obese people come from China.

Hold on, 1 in 5 of the worlds population is from China, so it makes them no less fat or thin than the average. This (UK) is indeed a nation of lazy fat gits, fortunately we haven't quite reached the US stage. If you've got kids, watch Wall-E - fatties everywhere !

Watched a programme about Top of the Pops 1976 last night and it was amazing how slim everybody looked.

When I've been to the US, I've found it to be a nation of extremes. There are huge numbers of very, very fat people. Many others seem to make real efforts to keep fit.

The highest percentage of morbidly obese people I've seen in one place, is the all you can eat buffets in Las Vegas. And I mean jaw-droppingly obese. The place makes me feel anorexic, and I could probably do with losing about 10Lbs...

Pub meal with the kids on holiday. Really nice looking food - and a good step up from the turkey burger type. Fat family on the next table ordered similar food but gave the staff specific instructions to leave off all the salad and vegetables from the meal.

I do rather cringe when I hear other English people ordering food when abroad. They seem to always want things exactly as they have in England.
Best one was when they ordered Steak Tartare and you know they are not expecting raw meat.

I was in a Red Lobster in Chicago a few years ago, it was having an all you can eat night for $10, there was a "huge" American guy wedge into the seat and he basically ordered everything from the menu but did not want any of the salads.

I had problems eating the starter it was so big.

I managed to impress a New York waitress once by eating 8 pancakes for my breakfast

It was basically to fill up, so that I didn't have to interrupt my day's sightseeing to go for lunch.

Stayed in a hotel once where there was a guy so huge you could see the water level rise when he got in the swimming pool. Every morning, he would pull his chair up to the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet and devour everything within arm's reach. Then move his chair up and repeat the process until the buffet was closed.

Is it not a good basic principle to eat most at breakfast and least in the last meal of the day? Or have the 'experts' changed their minds again?

I have given up going to my local chippy. If I order fish and chips they will give me enough for two people and Mrs A. does not eat f&c. If I want a portion right for just me I have to order a childs portion or else waste a lot.
