What road bike?

Hi guys,

I bought a mtb and know I am wanting a road bike as the majority of my riding is on the road! I know I should have just bought a road bike in the first place but I was impatient and rushed into just getting On the road! I was just wondering If any one could suggest a fairly cheap road bike under £200 or cheaper I know this won't buy me a lot but I just want to try it out really before I go buying something expensive! Any help is appreciated. Thanks again!

I've been looking at cheap second hand and basic road bikes myself and have come to the realisation that they are at least 1/3 more expensive than the equivalent level mountain bikes and £200 road bikes are either going to be arse or need a lot of work. If you intend to buy a nice one if you like the feel of the road bike position then I would suggest you hire rather than buy.

Buy a classic (ish) Reynolds framed road bike. They tend to go for £80-£150 depending on condition.

The peugeot bikes are loved by a good few, and I am loving my Optimum. Parts are cheap as chips but shop around and you'll find most are just collecting dust in a garage and in need of a basic service

Not recommending, but I was quite surprised that asda direct has quite a range of cheap road bikes.

shame you are not a bit more local as i would quite happily say come and have a try on a few road bikes to see re size and what you think , would suggest a 54cm or 21.5" sized frame to start with and then try 1 size up or down and see what fits best .

got nothing built for sale ready at mo but will look and see whats in the pipeline that i know about and let you know

Thanks for all your help, that would be brilliant I just don't want to spend a lot on a new bike. I still want a good looking second hand bike, but still need to sell mine I'm hoping to get around £280 for it. Once that has gone I can then get a road bike. Cheers to everyone!

See above............I bought an "as new" Triban 3 for £200 a year ago and haven't spent a penny on it since it's arrival.
