Hi all,

I am looking to get some new tyres for my road bike. Currently I have the Schwalbe Laguna's, which came with the bike. (700x23)

I am looking at the Ultremo R.1 (Schwalbe). Does anyone else use these?

They will be used for long distance road cycling and the weekly Time Trials.

Is this a good tyre to use or can anyone recommend other tyres, also why you recommend them would be really good too.

Also, is there any strength /puncture resistant difference between folding and wired tyres?

Thanks all.

New to this forum but I have a pretty extensive knowledge.
I ride with the Schwalbe Ultremo R1's. Stunning tyre. Rolling resistance is VERY low and races like a super star. HOWEVER....... They tend to wear pretty quickly (well here in SA they do anyway). Could have a lot to do with the heat that we have here, the temp of the tar, but I get no more than 1000km out of my race tyres (app 625 miles).
Used the Conti GP4000s as well and also, about the same mileage.
Now, using the Serfas Secca RS for training. Tend to get more training mileage out of these and only race with the Ultremo R1's.
As for puncture resistance, I have NEVER punctured the Schwalbe's, not in racing conditions anyway. The Serfas I have punctured a good few times.

Things might be different thre, but SA roads and NOT the best

Thanks for the input.

English roads aren't always the best either! Sometimes it feels like you're off road when your still on it.

I don't race ramses, but I use the Ultremo DD and they are 'pretty quick' (at transporting my fat ar$e around) and also durable. Previously I used, and have aon other bikes, Pro 3 Race, but got a lot of flats in my last set, hence the switch to DD - a good tyre. Maybe ask this question on the Racing section? Will1985, iLB and many more of this forum race enough to know the difference.

Only my 2c worth, hope that it helped a little. Will be finding out what your roads are like from the 12 July  . Looking forward to it, change in weather and riding attitude I think  Good luck with your next tyre purchase.

You can't go wrong with Schwalbe or Conti.

I use Michelin Krylion Carbon - fast, decent puncture protection and give a high mileage. I read that you can easily get 3k miles out of the rear and 5-6k on the front. I haven't done that many miles on mine so can't verify this.

I don't race, but if I did, I'd consider the Michelin Pro race 3. They're more supple (less puncture protection) so give a more comfortable ride. They're also slightly lighter so will be faster. Though I hear they're less durable.

With regards to folding vs beaded - the folding tyres will be lighter and more supple which equals faster and more comfortable. Downside is that the sidewalls are usually weaker so tyres will be less durable.
