One of my neighbours had new fences and the old boy smashed the 18 old fence panels into small pieces under a foot long and bagged them up for me.

We are also stove fanatics; not only does the stove warm the room beautifully but it sucks huge volumes of air up the flue meaning the house never gets stuffy, or damp as with a gas fire. But beware wood that has already been used for some other purpose; if it's tanalised you will get cyanide fumes going up the flue and if it's been painted or varnished there will be resins collecting in the flue.

Has anyone done a "got wood" joke yet?

Mort's got wood.
We own a bit of a wood, so there's always firewood for us, and I don't even mind people getting a bit of fallen wood from it if they don't take the piss, which they largely don't. Taking cut logs is definitely taking the mickey though!

I wouldn't burn the offcut rubbish in the stove other than as kindling. It burns away really hot and you're left with nothing after 10 minutes.
