Hey,
It's my first post here, sorry if this question gets asked a lot!

I bought a road bike a few months ago and it didn't come with the best tyres I think it's fair to say. I am looking for some new tyres that are quite puncture resistant but also not too slow in terms of pace. I'm travelling 25 mile a day, 3 times a week.

Which tyres would you recommend that last well and have decent pace?

Thanks!

Picking a few off the top of my head:

Continental GP4000S or GP 4Seasons
Michelin Pro 4 Endurance
Schwalbe Durano
Vittoria Rubino Pro

I personally run GP4000S, but I have tried the Vittorias too and they are only slightly slower but half the price. The Contis are better in the wet though.

No matter how hard you try, you'll get caught in the wet at some point. What bike did you get out of interest? And what tyres are on it?

I cheat and decide to drive to work if it rains ;)

I have got the specialized Secteur c2. The tyres at the moment are Espoir Sport if that means anything to you.

And thanks for all your recommendations, much appreciated. Need decide which one suits me better now!

Agree with last reply. Also add Michelin Lithion 2 to that list and try the 25mm ones. For decent puncture resistance I'd go for the Durano's or the Lithion 2.

The Espoir Sports are actually not a bad tyre. I would just wear them out first if I was you then stick some of the above recommendations on after that.

:welcome: to CC

For all year round protection something like Conti Gatorskins, Conti 4 Seasons or Schwalbe Durano+ are very highly regarded.

Standard Schwalbe Durano and Conti 4000gp are great tyres but are more race oriented, so puncture protection is not there main selling point, also Schwalbe tyres are generally a soft compound and IME wear far more quickly than others, great tyres if you can afford to keep up with them, I can't though

I do have a pair of Conti GP4000s in the shed, but the window of use on the roads around here is too small for me to bother changing them over, as a result I've just left my Gatorskins on for the past couple of years.

Gatorskins for me as I commute mainly and they offer superb puncture protection and although a bit heavy my times on strava are not to bad

If you're looking to buy a cheaper pair, I run Michelin Lithion 2s and found them to be a good tyre (£10 from Planet X at the mo)

Thanks for your all responses. Knew this would not be an easy choice!

Might go for the Continental GatorSkin then - but good idea on the above post: i shall run these tyres down til i feel too uncomfortable with them.

While you are all so helpful, what mm thick do you recommend? I want pace but also not too thin they become high prone to punctures. Mine at the minute are 25 which is the normal right?
