It appears that the world of cycling in recent years has not only endured the invasion of ex-golfing mamils, but that mamil man himself likes to exercise the 'bike upside down' method to fix punctures, like kids with BMXs!

I recently witnessed a Garmin 810 and a rear Dura-Ace C35 take a pounding at the hands of mamil man with a flat. All the gear but no idea, doesn't quite stretch far enough as this mamil was unable to even remove the tyre from the C35 whilst his 810 made love to the asphalt.

Back in the day, turning the bike upside down was frowned upon, as was not being able to fix your own puncture in under 8 minutes, although rule breakers back then usually rode £75 Raleighs

I have always turned the bike upside down, for the past 50 years, much easier.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Never flip the bike, no need.
Can get away with it for the front if you can prop the forks on a kerb etc but i have yet to find a way of not knackering the rear mudgaurd without flipping the whole bike over .

Always flipped the bike upside down, happy to chuck gloves/jacket etc on surface to protect the vitals on the bars. How does one protect the rear derailier when changing the rear?

Luckily I had some railings to hang the bike on today, otherwise....

As I learned back in the days when you need two spanner a to get your wheel off, I too am a flipper if it's the back wheel.

I gave tried the technique of turning your front wheel to one side and lifting the rear end in the air. It works providing you've something to prop the rear end against.
