I picked up a cheap Carrera Virtuoso last month, as an N+1 to generally muck about with, tinker, and possibly upgrade with a few new bits.

Been looking at wheel upgrades, but not sure what to do: as the bike was only a couple of hundred quid, spending really big bucks on wheels seems a bit pointless, and defeats the purpose of this being a relatively inexpensive second-bike. Equally, sticking anything cheap on there will be no better than the stock rims.

So I suppose I'm looking for suggestions for relatively cheap wheels, but ones that will offer a noticeable improvement in the bike's performance...?

Mavic Aksium, Fulcrum 7 or possibly some of the Shimano RS10's or better. Could also look at the Planet X Model B's

fulcrum do a great range of wheels with a pair to suit every budget. have used some of the racing zero before they were really light and responsive but they are about £800.
